Highgate School and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are opening a new sixth form school in the heart of Tottenham, with the support of the Department for Education (DfE) in September 2017.

Highgate School, a leading independent school, is the lead educational sponsor and will work with nine other independent school partners to deliver courses in the 15 A Levels most prized by the most prestigious universities and top employers

About the sponsors

Highgate School, a co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 3-18, will act as principal education sponsor of LAE Tottenham and recruit and deploy the full-time equivalent of five members of the total teaching staff, as well as assisting with wider administrative, pastoral and management support. Tottenham Hotspur will be the principal business sponsor, providing financial support, as well as the school premises and facilities management.  

Nine renowned independent schools Alleyn's, Chigwell, Harrow, John Lyon, Mill Hill, North London Collegiate, St Albans, St Dunstan’s and Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ – recently named as the Sunday Times’ Independent School of the Year are additional academic partners who will offer expertise and first-class teaching.

First Head Appointed to new Sixth Form Academy in Tottenham

Highgate School and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jan Balon as Principal-Designate of the London Academy of Excellence, Tottenham, from 1st January 2017.

Mr Balon, who has a degree in Politics from Warwick University, was previously Vice-Principal at Aylward Academy in Edmonton, where he was responsible for expanding the Sixth Form provision, improving pupil experience and results markedly since 2014. He is well placed to establish a new Sixth Form in Tottenham, where at least 50% of the pupils will be local.

About LAE Tottenham

LAE Tottenham will open as a state-funded sixth form in September 2017, welcoming A-level students into Year 12 and following the model of the highly successful London Academy of Excellence in Stratford. This new school in Tottenham will prioritise local students most likely to benefit from an academically-rigorous curriculum.

LAE Tottenham will be based in state-of-the-art premises.
